What is mixed media art?
Mixed media art is a work that combines more than one type of artistic medium or material, such as paint, fabric, paper, and found objects, to create a single piece.
This technique allows for greater creativity and dimension by layering different materials to enhance their unique properties, and it can be applied to both 2D and 3D art like collages, assemblages, and sculptures.
Mixed Media Textile Art Project
For this unit, you will have 4 days to create a Mixed Media Textile Art Project. You may have time to create a series of projects, so budget your time wisely.
Your project should include a combination of two or more different textile art techniques. You can select two from the list below or if you have other ideas in mind, we can discuss during your conference.
Your project must use 2 or more of the following techniques.
Fabric Painting
Block Printing (with potato)
Beading
Embroidery
Fabric Collage or Quilting (can be by hand or machine)
Hand stitching
Metallic Paint or Foil Applique
Your subject matter can be literal or abstract, 2D or 3D.
Consider how your project will be displayed or used - (hoop, wall hanging, attached to clothing, etc.)

Project Process
Process:
Start by completing a Project Proposal paper. Select a project you will be able to complete in class time. Include your plan to display your work.
You can trace a design or work from an inspiration image, please bring this to your conference. Clearly outline which techniques and media you would like to include.
Next, conference with Ms. Nethery before you begin.
Use your class time to complete your project, making adjustments as necessary. Ask for help whenever you need it.
Submit a photo and your project, along with your reflection at the end of the unit. Make sure your project is properly displayed.
*Responsible Use of Studio Space and Materials
Please ensure you are only taking what you need, returning unused materials and cleaning up after yourself. I will be factoring this into your report card mark based on my observations.
